Communication Design & Marketing Specialist
 
This diverse position focuses on graphic and communications design, multi-media development, social media management and generalized marketing for Kootenay Employment Services current and future programs.
 
Accountability: Public Engagement and Development Manager/Marketing Coordinator
Salary Range: $26 - $32 / hour dependent upon experience and skill level
Hours: 24 – 35 hours per week
Location: Creston, Cranbrook, Invermere, or Fernie

Duties:
 
Graphic Design
  • Create visual content for social media across various platforms.
  • Create visual content for various KES websites.
  • Design and layout of print and digital publications used for organizational promotion in collaboration with the marketing team and internal stakeholders.
  • Develop design themes for various documents, including annual reports, funding proposals and promotional materials, in collaboration with the marketing coordinator, senior management team and internal stakeholders.
  • Maintain brand consistency across artwork.
 
Social Media
  • Plan content for a number of KES social media properties on various social media platforms.
  • Schedule content for various platforms using a social media manager like Buffer.
  • Work collaboratively to maintain a social media presence and plan across but not limited to, the KES and WorkBC social media accounts.
 
Internal Communication and Task Management
  • Respond to marketing requests, and work as a team to ensure work is distributed and completed in a timely manner.
  • Communicate with KES personnel on marketing and graphic design requests and issues.
  • Liaison with the Finance & Operations manager for approvals on marketing content.
  • Ordering & coordinating marketing materials, business cards, event materials and any other marketing & media-related products.
 
Media & Community Communications
  • Contact media representatives for:
  • Submission & communication regarding print & digital advertisements
  • Updates about programs
  • Articles, radio interviews and commercials.
  • Liaison regarding marketing & events with a variety of community partners, organizations and businesses within the Creston and East Kootenays.
 
Copywriting
  • Write and edit content for brochures, posters, websites, newsletters, blogs, social media ads, press releases etc.
  • Liaison with internal subject matter experts to discuss & collaborate for text on programs and content.
  • Organize or assist with voicing radio commercials and conducting radio interviews.
  • Create written articles, stories and media releases as required, with support from KES department staff.
 
Marketing General
  • Capitalize on periodic marketing opportunities – both anticipated and unexpected.
  • Capitalize on marketing opportunities that raise KES’ presence and status amongst peer organizations, funders and community stakeholders.
  • Collaborate on new LEAD program design or WBC focus projects as needed.
  • Maintenance of The Hub (internal KES website).
  • Attend brainstorming sessions and provide suggestions for improvement.
  • Other duties as required
 
Qualifications and Experience
Pay will be determined based on skill level of the candidate. All candidates must be able to use Adobe Creative Cloud for basic design functions. Candidates who have skills in web development would be offered wages higher on the pay range, this includes knowledge of WordPress, specifically the use of the Elementor, Crocoblocks and LearnDash plugins.
All candidates must have excellent computer and communication skills and be highly proficient in using social media. All candidates must possess a clean criminal record check for the vulnerable sector.

  • Self-motivated and able to work well independently.
  • Able to research, troubleshoot and solve problems.
  • Able to listen, understand and respond to the marketing needs of the organization as identified by program staff.
  • Excellent communication skills – verbal, written and electronic.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities, including proficiency in multi-tasking and prioritizing tasks.

Portfolio Requirements
Please submit a digital portfolio (website link preferred) or PDF portfolio containing recent work samples that demonstrate your capabilities in:
  • Graphic Design: Visual content for social media, print materials, brand-consistent designs, and layout work for publications
  • Social Media Content: Examples of planned content, campaigns, or social media graphics you've created
  • Copywriting: Samples of written content including brochures, web copy, blog posts, press releases, or marketing materials
  • Multi-Media Projects: Any video, audio, or interactive content you've developed
  • Brand Consistency: Examples showing how you've maintained brand guidelines across different materials

Portfolio Submission Guidelines:
  • Include 5-8 diverse projects that best represent your range of skills
  • For each project, briefly describe your role, the challenge, and the outcome
  • If showcasing confidential work, please provide context while respecting privacy
  • Portfolio should be easily accessible (public website link or PDF under 10MB)
  • Web development samples (WordPress/Elementor experience) should include live links where possible

Compensation

$26.00 - $32.00 per hour
